Our Path to the Future

We are forging our own path toward a shared future

Our commitment to sustainability is not just a new marketing gimmick, but the result of decades of development.

We have invested:

  • in our own forests to sequester CO2
  • in a wind turbine
  • in our own rooftop solar array
  • in free electric vehicle charging stations on company grounds
  • in a fully electric company fleet

In the context of the company’s history

  • 1960: First paint factory in Northern Europe to use closed pearl mills (rather than open roller mills)
  • Aromatic-free and heavy-metal-free products since the 1980s
  • 1992: First company in Hamburg to be certified under the EU Eco-Audit (now EMAS)
  • 1992: First company in Northern Germany with its own electric car
  • Using electricity from renewable energy sources in production since 1995
  • Since 1997, the entire production process has operated WITHOUT generating any wet chemical hazardous waste
  • Since 2000: Cooling without drinking water (instead using a CFC-free cooling water circuit)
  • 2017: First manufacturer in Germany to supply spray paint cans with dual active ingredients and propellant (“Comfort Cans”) made from renewable waste materials
  • Since 2019: Heating with renewable energy
  • Since 2020: Free charging stations for electric cars
  • 2022: Officially certified as a carbon-neutral company. Further information here. Thanks to measures taken so far, our CO2 emissions have been so low that two-thirds of the remaining CO2 to be offset comes from employees’ commutes (though 30% still commute by bus, train, bicycle, or electric car).
  • We have reduced our annual water consumption by 95% over the past 25 years.
  • We have reduced our annual energy consumption per 100 metric tons of paint produced by 45% over the past 25 years.
